2. Elevate & Educate

Attention ladies! The Nantucket blACKbook invites you to a special networking collective focusing on marketing, social media and wealth. Join Holly Finigan, Jasmine Takanikos and Giana Armano in the White Elephant ballroom and prepare to be elevated and educated. 3. Scalloper’s Ball

October 1st marks the first day of the recreational scalloping season, and with it comes the annual Scalloper’s Ball. An evening of live music and dancing, a silent auction, and delectable seafood fare, this event is a SOLD OUT affair each and every year.
4. 5th Annual Miacomet Golf Classic

This year’s 5th annual Miacomet Golf Classic will benefit Family & Children’s Services of Nantucket, with all proceeds of the entry fee going to support this incredibly important island nonprofit. 5. CANCELLATION REMINDER: Annual Nantucket Maritime Festival
Sadly, for the first time ever, the Nantucket Maritime Festival has been cancelled due to weather conditions. Unfortunately there will not be a rain date, so make alternative plans for Saturday and get even more excited for the 2017 event!
6. First Annual Pig Roast

Kick off the month of October at Atlas with their first annual pig roast, complete with hot biscuits, Asian slaw, hot rice and beans, and of course, slow smoked pig. Reservations are recommended and your meal includes a draft beer for good measure.
7. Women of ’69, Unboxed Screening and Q&A
Tuesday, October 4
7 – 8:45 P.M. @ Nantucket Atheneum
Join the Nantucket Atheneum for a special screening of ‘Women of 69, Unboxed’, a new documentary profiling a group of college women — the class of 1969 — who were impacted by the turbulence of the 60s as they look back and ahead to the future. The film will be following by a Q&A with executive producer Liz Roman Gallese. Admission is free.
8. Anatomy of a Story: A Conversation with a National Geographic Photographer
Wednesday, October 5
7 – 8:15 P.M. @ Nantucket Atheneum
National Geographic photographer Cary Wolinsky will be at the Nantucket Atheneum offering a behind-the-scenes look at how he created articles for the esteemed magazine, National Geographic. Covering subjects from space travel to diamond cutting and with a career spanning more than 30 years, this event is an incredible opportunity to hear first hand what really goes on in the field. Admission is free.
9. Film for Thought: The Weekend Sailor

6:30 P.M. @ The Dreamland
The Weekend Sailor, a new feature documentary about the unexpected victory of the Mexican yacht Sayula II in the first crewed sailing race around the world in 1974, will be showing at The Dreamland as part of their Film for Thought series. 10. Staged Reading: Driving Miss Daisy
Wednesday, October 5
7 P.M. @ Quaker Meeting House
The NHA and “The House that Mac Built” will present a staged reading of “Driving Miss Daisy” in honor of Joseph ‘Mac’ Dixon, the co-founder and forty-year Artistic Director of Theatre Workshop of Nantucket. Alfred Uhry’s classic play addresses race relations in America, as told through the complex relationship between a wealthy Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur.
