1. 27th Annual Marla Ceely Lamb Cancer Travel Fundraiser
Friday, November 15
5:00 – 10:00 pm @ Faregrounds

Honor local cancer fighters and help to offset the cost of their battle with this important community fundraiser. Raffles, silent and live auctions, hors d’oeurvres, and Nantucket’s own Shepcats will all be part of the fun at Faregrounds this Friday evening. The $20 suggested donation at the door helps to pay for travel costs for cancer patients’ off-island care. For more information, click here

 

2. S.T.A.R. Chopped
Saturday, November 16
10:00 am – 11:30 am @ Nantucket Culinary Center

The next Bobby Flay, Ina Garten, or Wolfgang Puck could be right here on Nantucket, and the S.T.A.R. Chopped Series is ready to find them! Classes focus on food prep, safe food handling, menu planning, and basic cooking. The class will culminate in the sharing of a meal of the mini chefs’ creation. For more information, click here

 

3. Moby-Dick Marathon
Saturday, November 16 – Sunday, November 17
Saturday @ 10:00 am – Sunday (until the book’s Conclusion) @ Nantucket Atheneum

Warm up those pipes and grab a bottle of water – the Moby-Dick Marathon is back! Nat Philbrick will kick off the all-night event, with other readers following to continue reading the other 134 (!) chapters. This event is cosponsored by the NHA and concludes the year-long celebrations for Herman Melville’s 200th birthday in 2019. For more information, click here

 

4. Nantucket Comedy Festival Presents: Jessica Casciano & Andrew Della Volpe
Saturday, November 16
7:00 pm @ The Dreamland

Tickle your funny bone with this laugh-out-loud Saturday night event. Join Nantucket Comedy Festival executive director Kevin Flynn as he hosts comedians Jessica Casciano and Andrew Della Volpe for a night of fun and funnies. 5. Nantucket Science Pub
Monday, November 18
6:00 – 8:00 pm @ Saltbox Tavern & Table

Nature lovers and science junkies will love this casual and enlightening event. Join Dr. Sarah Bois, Director of Research and Education at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, and Dr. Jen Karberg, Research Program Supervisor at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, as they host the first Science Pub of the Fall. The two scientists will be discussing climate change and how it affects our island community specifically. The talk is free and open to all, with food and drinks available to purchase. 6. 2020 – 2021 Guidebook Cover Competition

5:00 – 7:00 pm @ Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, Zero Main Street

Local artists and photographers have been hard at work creating their own rendition of a cover for the 2020 – 2021 Nantucket Chamber of Commerce Guidebook, and now it’s time to pick the winner! 8. Film for Thought: When Lambs Become Lions

Following the tumultuous ivory trade in Africa, this documentary examines how we value life and the troubling decision-making process in how to preserve it. One question pervades the film’s storyline: whose life is more important? The innocent elephant’s, or the humans’, struggling to support themselves? 9. A Thousand Leagues of Blue Book Launch
