Counter Culture

Nantucketers will get the chance to walk down memory lane again just after Memorial Day, because the stools are coming back to the Counter on Main Street. Our beloved little diner counter inside Nantucket  Pharmacy will be starting in-person counter service again in just a matter of days. Soon we’ll be able to belly up and enjoy Island Kitchen’s homemade ice creams again with a friend or loved one.

Island Kitchen took over the counter in early 2020 just before the Covid shutdown. The team did an incredible job keeping the nostalgia in the old pharmacy while blending in some new Island Kitchen additions to the menu. The pandemic forced the team to pivot to takeout only just weeks after they got the counter up and running. It has since been a popular grab and go destination featuring classics like the breakfast special – a bagel with cream cheese, bacon, scallion, and tomato – as well as new additions like the Korean bbq chicken bowl with soy ginger brown rice, napa cabbage, pickled vegetables, and sesame. Now, while still providing take-out, the Counter will offer dine-in services once again with an extended menu.

IK’s General Manager, Zach Cohen is amped up to get back on track, “We have some fun new things happening, including house-made acai, smoothies, and a brand new espresso program.” Zach and his team not only have the new espresso program, but they’re extending their arms out to our hard-working community by offering a 50% discount on coffee and espresso for anyone who works in town. In true IK fashion they’ll be doing what they can to keep this island moving.

“We are so excited to see town buzzing again and can’t wait for this season,” says Cohen. You can head down to the pharmacy for nourishment daily from 8am – 6pm, order online, or call for takeout.
