1. Closing Weekend of The Diary of Anne Frank

Following last year’s wonderfully successful staging of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, the Dreamland is hosting a new production for this season: The Diary of Anne Frank. Upholding the Dreamland’s goal to produce an iconic and socially-conscious play each fall, this show tells the historic story of young Anne Frank’s transcendent spirit as she comes of age during WWII. 2. NantucketGrown Food Festival – Farm to Table Tasting

5:00 – 7:00 pm @ The Nantucket Yacht Club

Kick off a weekend of delicious eats with the Farm to Table Tasting, part of Sustainable Nantucket’s NantucketGrown Food Festival. This popular event will pair Island chefs with a farmer or small food producer to highlight the best of this season’s local offerings. 3. 19th Annual Harvest Fair
Saturday, October 13
11:00 am – 2:00 pm @ The Old Mill

The Harvest Fair is back – a Nantucket favorite Fall event! Bring the whole family to the Old Mill for an afternoon celebrating the history of Nantucket harvests. Activities include tours of the Old Mill, old-fashioned games, and autumn crafts. Make sure to come hungry too, as there will be ample apple cider, apples, and corn bread to share. 4. Local Cocktail Creations with Carl Sutton

3:00 – 4:30 pm @ Pumpkin Pond Farm

Although the NantucketGrown Festival focuses mostly on food, no local meal is complete without a delicious cocktail to accompany it! Thankfully Carl Sutton of Cisco Brewers will be hosting an event to teach you all the ins and outs of how to make an awesome Nantucket cocktail. 5. Nathaniel Philbrick’s In The Hurricane’s Eye Pre-Release Launch Party

5:00 – 6:00 pm @ Mitchell’s Book Corner

Just in time for Hurricane Season, Nathaniel Philbrick has arrived right on schedule with his latest book “In the Hurricane’s Eye: The Genius of George Washington and the Victory at Yorktown.” Join the celebrated local author for a pre-release party at Mitchell’s this Saturday, and make sure to bring a pen! 6. Community Fall BBQ

Requirements for an awesome Fall Saturday: Outdoor BBQ and Open Bar? Check. Live Music? Check. Corn hole? Check! Find all of these and more at one of the most fun family events of the autumn season at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club Community BBQ. 7. Author Talk – David Blight on Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom
Sunday, October 14
4:00 – 5:15 pm @ Nantucket Atheneum

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Frederick Douglass’ birth and his connection to Nantucket, the Atheneum, Nantucket Historical Association, and the African Meeting House will be hosting Professor David W. Blight to discuss his new book Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom. Blight has spent years researching Douglass’ life and presents new insights as to how he escaped slavery and became one of the major literary figures of his time. For more information, click here

 

8. Proprietors Hog’toberfest

6:00 pm @ The American Legion Hall

Get ready to pig out! Stick your fork into some pork at Proprietors Bar & Table’s annual Hog’toberfest. This special, one-night-only dinner is a NantucketGrown partner event and will feature pork dishes made from humanely farmed pig products, as well as wine, beer, and cocktail pairings by Anna Worgess. 9. Film for Thought: Love Gilda
Wednesday, October 17
6:30 pm @ The Dreamland

This touching film about funny female favorite Gilda Radner was such a smash success at this year’s Nantucket Film Festival, that it’s back by popular demand. The movie sheds new light on the Saturday Night Live legend, featuring Radner’s diaries and personal audio recordings (courtesy of the Radner estate). This is her story through her own words – about her efforts to break into the comedy scene and to battle cancer – and it is an inspirational one for sure. 10. Touchdowns and Tannins Wine Tasting
Thursday, October 18
5:00 – 7:00 pm @ Epernay Wine & Spirits

Kick off Thursday Night Football with a touchdown of wine tastings! Stretch your palate and enjoy a selection of ‘1st and Ten’ tannins that are sure to be wine winners.
