1. Swim Across America
Saturday, August 25
6:30 am @ Jetties Beach

Suit up and come make a splash at the annual Swim Across America Nantucket Open Water Swim event! Swimmers of all ages are encouraged to come out to Jetties Beach to help support cancer treatment and patient care on the island. For registration and more information, click here

 

2. ACK Clean Team
Saturday, August 25
8:00 – 9:00 am @ The Rotary

The ACK Clean Team has more volunteers than ever this summer! After the amazing Trashion Show they helped put together in July, the Clean Team is even more motivated to keep our island’s beaches, dunes, bike paths, and roadsides free of litter. 3. A Nourished Life – Plant-Based Diet with Nancy Cohen
Saturday, August 25
10:00 – 11:00 am @ Nantucket Culinary Center

End your summer on a healthy note with the Nantucket Culinary Center and their new Nourished Life series of healthy classes, focused on optimal heath, eating well, and cooking meals. Nancy Cohen, creator of “We the Leafy,” a company focused on wellness coaching and workshops, will guide you through the world of healthful cleanses and organic food preparation. 4. Citizen Cope Concert
Saturday, August 25
8:00 pm @ The Chicken Box

Multi-talented songwriter, producer, and performer Citizen Cope is going to rock the stage at the Box this Saturday. Described by one Rolling Stone writer as “an artist immune to corruption,” his edgy, raw style, digs deep into the rich soil of American music. 5. Surfside Crossing ZBA Hearing
Tuesday, August 28
4:30 pm @ Nantucket High School Mary P. Walker Auditorium

The local Nantucket community is currently standing together against the proposed 156-unit 40B “Surfside Crossing” Development. After the initial hearing was postponed due to crowd size, this hearing at the high school will allow for more people to attend. Opponents point out the impending water, light, and noise pollution as well as a dramatic increase in traffic, while others are pushing for the affordable housing that 25% of the development would provide. Attend the meeting this Tuesday and use your voice towards major changes on the island.

 

6. Summer Sunset Series: The Ballroom Thieves
Monday, August 27
7:00 pm @ The Whaling Museum

Stop those thieves! …The Ballroom Thieves that is. Come out and celebrate the end of the summer with the last Summer Sunset Series event and dance the night away to the music of The Ballroom Thieves. Take in their subtle balance of old-school pop with big harmonies and folk song writing while enjoying catering and beverages by Island Kitchen and Cisco Brewers. 7. Sailors Scuttlebutt Lecture Series: Nat Philbrick
Tuesday, August 28
6:00 pm @ The Whaling Museum

Climb aboard for the next installment of the Sailors’ Scuttlebutt Lecture Series, with author and Nantucket icon Nat Philbrick. He’ll be discussing his memoir Second Wind: a Sunfish Sailor, an Island, and a Voyage That Brought a Family Together.  A personal tale about his new spin on life as a Sunfish racer, this updated memoir (originally published in 1999) features a brand-new preface. 8. Book Signing with David Adams Cleveland
Wednesday, August 29
10:30 am – 12:00 pm @ Mitchell’s Book Corner

Calling all bookworms! Get out your pens and head on over to Mitchell’s Book Corner for a book signing with author David Adams Cleveland. Cleveland, known for works such as Love’s Attraction, With a Gemlike Flame and A History of American Tonalism will be signing his new novel Time’s Betrayal. 9. Seaside Wine Destinations Tasting

10. Evanston Salt Costs Climbing
Thursday, August 30
7:30 pm @ White Heron Theatre

New Neighborhood Theater Company and the White Heron Theatre will present the world premiere of Will Arbery’s play “Evanston Salt Costs Climbing” this Thursday. The comedy tells the story of salt truck drivers Peter and Basil who battle winter storms one after the other.
