A true icon of Nantucket art, Donn Russell will be returning to the island to showcase a new selection of his prints at the David Hostetler Gallery on Centre Street. Come and take a peek at his original and creative viewpoints of the harbor, the boat basin, and various other marine inspirations in these hand-cut and hand-inked screens. And while you’re there, be sure to congratulate Russell as the Artist Association of Nantucket recently named the printmaking program in their new Visual Arts Center after this master!

Mining images from newspapers, magazines, and art books and reinterpreting them through his own unique perspective, Peter Tunney’s collage paintings at the Samuel Owen Gallery on Centre Street are not to be missed! Swing by the Artist Reception to view his new works and meet Tunney himself while enjoying drinks from Cisco Brewers and music by Audio Architechs.

Saturday, August 22 || 8 A.M. || Jetties Beach
Make a splash at the annual Swim Across America event where participating swimmers can choose to swim a half-mile, one mile, or just jump in for the “Kids Splash.” All proceeds go to support cancer care on Nantucket. Not signed up to swim? No problem! Join the supporters and spectators on the beach and cheer on the swimmers!

Join the NHA for a fascinating evening lecture with underwater photographer and Nantucket native Ben Phillips. From Southeast Asia to the Gulf Stream, Phillips’ photographs bring us amazing portraits of microorganisms – tiny creatures invisible to the naked eye!
