A VERY NANTUCKET VALENTINE’S DAY

Written By: Emme Duncan

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we can think of no better way to celebrate the love in your life than with a romantic weekend getaway (or staycation!) to Nantucket.

Where to stay.

Small inns and B&Bs = romance. So take advantage of specials like the Centerboard Inn‘s “February is for Lovers” package, where they’re throwing in chilled champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, round-trip Hyline tickets, breakfast and afternoon tea daily, and a $50 gift certificate to the restaurant of your choice! Click here for more information.

Nantucket resident? Turn your home into your very own romantic hotel and decorate the house with fragrant roses from Flowers on Chestnut, as well as some calming candles and beautiful lighting. Wake up early on Valentine’s morning and head out to pick up some delicious pastries and freshly brewed coffee from The Hub, and spoil your partner with a breakfast in bed delivery!

What to do.

February weather on Nantucket can be unpredictable to say the least, but based on the spring-like temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately, we are cautiously optimistic. Should the sunshine continue, we can think of nothing more romantic than a Valentine’s stroll along Sconset’s Bluff Walk, where you’ll take in some of the most breathtaking (and private) views on the island.

Cisco Brewers will be serving up some sweet tunes Friday and Saturday from 4:30 – 7 P.M. with Foggy Roots and Lance Mountain respectively. So grab your partner (in life or in crime) and head out there… who knows, maybe they’ll even let you request a love song or two.

Prefer to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the furry friend in your life? Bartlett’s Farm will be hosting a special “My Furry Valentine” screening of Disney’s Homeward Bound in their hayloft the Saturday of Valentine’s weekend. Refreshments, games and prizes will be provided, and $20 door donations will benefit Nantucket Safe Harbor.

For all you hand-holders out there, why not take to the ice on Valentine’s Day for public skating at Nantucket Ice, the island’s community indoor skating rink. From 1:30 – 3:20 P.M., you and the love of your life can trace hearts on the ice and practice your doubles routine.

Where to drink + dine.

Looking to mix it up a bit and stray from the typical Valentine’s Day dinner out? Why not make it a brunch! Follow Cupid’s arrow over to Nautilus for brunch/lunch starting at 11:30 A.M. We have no doubt their bar staff will have some special cocktails made with lots of love.

Our pick for dinner? Dune or 56 Union. Both restaurants will be dishing up special prix fixe menus and we’re crazy for their beautiful and romantic atmospheres. Flying solo this Valentine’s Day? We say make a reservation anyway! Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a palate-pleasing meal to close out the weekend.

What to gift.

For the Nantucket local, give the gift of health! The Nantucket Hotel & Resort is offering their winter health club membership at the discounted rate of only $695 for now until June 13th. After all, you want your partner to be around a long, long time.

Looking for something for the lady in your life? Two of our favorite women’s boutiques, Milly & Grace and The Lovely are serving up some serious sales for Valentine’s weekend. Sneak in solo and their knowledgeable staffs will be happy to help, or come as a couple and let your love pick her own pieces.
