1. Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum Reopening
Friday, May 25

The Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum will reopen for the season on Friday, May 25 at 10:00am. Stop in to see their new exhibit, “Heirlooms and Legacies,” visit with volunteer weavers, or pick up a signature Nantucket souvenir in their gift shop. Click here for more information.

 

2. Artists Association of Nantucket Reception
Friday, May 25
6:00 – 8:00 pm @ 19 Washington Street

For the 8th consecutive year, the Artists Association of Nantucket will host their Cellography exhibit, inviting cell phone photographers to submit their work to be shown in a “simplistic but modern” approach. They will also add a new component to the 2018 exhibit, including iPads featuring a continuously updating slideshow of photos tagged with #aancellography2018. In addition, the Artists Open exhibition (also opening Friday) will feature fine art submitted by members of the community-at-large. Find out more information here

 

3. Green Line Inbound at the Chicken Box
Thursday, May 24 – Sunday, May 27
10:00 pm @ 16 Daves Street

The biggest weekend of the year requires a band big enough to fit the bill, and Green Line Inbound never disappoints. The band, made up of 5 suburban kids from different corners of the country, met in college and have been making sweet music together ever since. It’s no secret that the Box gets crazy busy over Memorial Day Weekend, so be sure to line up early to not miss the fun! For more information, click here

 

4. Rafael Osona Auction at the American Legion
Saturday, May 26
9:30 am @ 21 Washington Street

Known for their sales of “high quality antiques and art to discriminating buyers,” Rafael Osona Auctions will host an exclusive auction at the American Legion Hall Saturday morning. Bid on any number of antiques, fine art, Nantucket baskets, decor, carpets, sterling, jewelry, objects of art, and furnishings. 5. Coffee Tasting at Roastd
Saturday, May 26
10:00 am – 12:00 pm @ 159 Orange Street

Calling all coffee lovers! David Cook of Stumptown Coffee Roasters will be stopping by Roastd Saturday morning for a free coffee tasting. Enjoy 3 different kinds of brews (from Ethiopia, Columbia, and Indonesia) while you learn more about brewing and roasting from an expert. Find out more about Roastd here

 

6. Figawi Tent Party 
Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27
5:00 pm @ The Tent on New Whale Street

After the regatta is over and the main sails have been rolled up, it’s time to party! For competitors in the Figawi race on Saturday, there is a celebration under the event tent on New Whale Street, with products from sponsors including Mt. Gay Rum, Budweiser, Cisco Brewers, Coca Cola, Boisset Family Estates, Samuel Adams, and Jim Beam. If you’re lucky enough to attend, make sure you take home one of the coveted red Mt. Gay Rum hats. 7. Second Wind Book Signing with Nathaniel Philbrick
Sunday, May 27
10:30 am – 12:00 pm @ Mitchell’s Book Corner

After you get a sneak peek at Nathaniel Philbrick’s new book Second Wind in the June issue of N Magazine, grab a pen and a hard copy of the real thing for this book signing at Mitchell’s! 8. Figawi High School Sailing Regatta 
Sunday, May 27
11:00 am @ The Nantucket Boat Basin

Stop by the Nantucket Boat Basin on Sunday morning to watch ‘mini’ Figawi. High school sailing teams from across the Cape and Islands are brought to Nantucket by the Figawi organization to compete for the coveted Figawi Jr. Trophy. Racing in double handed, one design boats called 420’s, the nautical competitors will be fighting to the finish! Find out more information about the race here

 

9. Veterans’ Memorial Day Parade
Sunday, May 27
1:00 pm @ The American Legion

Dress in your patriotic best, remove your hat, and honor our nation’s fallen soldiers at the Memorial Day Parade for Veterans this Sunday. The annual parade begins at the American Legion and makes its way to Prospect Hill Cemetery, giving followers a chance to thank local and visiting veterans. 10. Box Prom
Monday, May 28
10:00 pm @ The Chicken Box

When the Chads have left and the Figawi lines disappear, it’s time for all the hard-working service industry people to get their chance to party. Enter the “Box Prom:” held every year on the Monday night of Memorial Day Weekend, this lively event celebrates all the efforts of the people who made Figawi weekend fun, and it’s always a good time! This year’s theme is a Luau, so if you’ll be working your lei off at a restaurant this weekend, hula your way on over to the Box Monday night for a well-deserved fete. Find out more information here
