Night Before Home Invasion, Police Say Suspect Led Them On Drunken High Speed Chase

Just one night before the suspect in last weekend’s home invasion on Vestal Street was arrested, he was drunk driving in a stolen Jeep, leading law enforcement officers on a high speed chase that topped 80 mph on Old South Road, police said.

Timothy Bigelow, 33, of South Boston, was arrested early last Friday on multiple charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation, failure to stop for police, and use of a motor vehicle without authority.

The alleged incident began at the scene of a rollover accident on Orange Street, where officers said they spotted Bigelow driving a white Jeep Wrangler the wrong way toward town on the portion of the street that is one-way.

They attempted to stop the vehicle, but Bigelow fled and drove south toward the airport at a high rate of speed.

A police report claims Bigelow ditched the Jeep around Arrowhead Drive and fled on foot before he was tracked down and arrested. It states the suspect told police he had consumed nine alcoholic beverages that night.

Bigelow was released by a bail clerk on personal recognizance. Within 24 hours, he was allegedly discovered in the basement of a home on Vestal Street where he was arrested again
