NHS Grad Benjamin Murphy Completes US Marine Corps Boot Camp

Benjamin P. Murphy, Nantucket High School class of 2020, graduated last week from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

PFC Murphy, 20, successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 58 recruits in Training Platoon 4006. While in recruit training PFC Murphy achieved Platoon Honor Graduate. Following 10 days home on leave he will report to Camp LeJeune for two months at Infantry Training Battalion.

He is the son of Devon and Melissa Murphy of Nantucket.

PFC Murphy joins a number of other Nantucketers who have enlisted in the Marines since 2016 including:

Deshawn Burton; Henry Flanagan; Joshua Harding; Brock Lewis; Thomas Murphy; William PenaloAcosta; Wilmer PenaloAcosta; Jason Sestrimski; and Devon Wiggins. Another NHS grad, Shane O’Connor, passed USMC officers’ candidate school in 2019, and accepted commission as an officer in May of 2020.
