Sushi Sean On The Move Once Again

Chef Sean Durnin announced late Sunday night that his popular takeout business Sushi Sean 11:11 is once again on the move.

His lease at 21 South Water Street is not being renewed, as the building owner is planning to renovate the commercial kitchen and bring in the new taqueria Nantaco. Sushi Sean’s last day of service at the location will be this Saturday, Feb. 26.

But Durnin vowed that Sushi Sean would continue on the island – in on way or another.

“We’ve got a plan for the summer and the long term,” Durnin said. “We were under the impression it was going to be longer – no one gets a one-year lease. But it is what it is. It happened kind of quick unfortunately.”

It was less than a year since Sushi Sean had moved to 21 South Water Street from its previous offseason location inside Yummy’s on Surfside Road. Durnin emphasized that the latest change was not due to lack of business.

“We’ve had a good response from people and the business is very healthy,” he said. “We’ve been lucky to slowly build this over the last few years. The end game is to have a restaurant – a 15-seat sushi bar and ramen bar. But in between, the model of my business is very flexible.”

Durnin did, however, drop a slight hint as to what the future may hold for Sushi Sean: “the next step is four wheels and sixteen feet with five miles on it.”
