Girls And Boys Swim Teams Dominate, Improve To 2-0

The Whaler girls and boys swim teams cruised to another dominant victory Tuesday night at the Nantucket Community Pool, this time defeating Barnstable. The girls won 138-35 while the boys won 85-40. Both teams are now 2-0 to begin their respective seasons.

“This girls lineup we put together is almost completely different from what we did against Sandwich,” head coach Jim Pignato said. “We just want to see how we can move these pieces around and try swimmers out in different events. It was a fun lineup to make up.”

“As for the boys I frontloaded the meet, which is a little bit different. We actually threw up two events with no one participating (100 Yard Backstroke and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay), which I don’t like to do because you are leaving points on the table. But we knew Barnstable was a small team (five male swimmers) so I knew we would be fine number wise, so we wanted to create matchups and try some different combinations.”

Pignato said the swimmers that stood out to him most were the girls in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Junior Lana Bresette finished first (6:57.48); Junior Abby Wisentaner finished second (6:59.93); and junior Julia Peraner finished third (7:09.23).

“Huge shoutout to those girls because going one, two, three in that event was huge,” Pignato said. “We knew what they were capable of and didn’t disappoint. They are a tight threesome on our team. Lana as a junior gets her first first place finish, so she deserves a lot of praise for her effort.”
