Riley Williams Commits To Mercy College

Nantucket senior Riley Williams signed his letter of intent Thursday morning and committed to Mercy College, where he will be joining their Div. II Baseball program.

“It is a lot of pressure off my shoulders now,” Williams said. “Now I just have to play this season, have fun. It is the last year with a lot of the kids I have played with my whole life. It is the last time we get to play together.”

Williams said he has always wanted to go to school in New York and knew quickly that Mercy College would be a great fit.

“It was the first school I saw where I said ‘wow I could really fit in there,’” he said. “I’ve always wanted to go to school in New York and I’ve always wanted to play baseball. The school has my major (International Relations) too. It was a great fit.”

When he isn’t suiting up for the Whalers, Williams plays for Team Cape Cod, one of the premier teams on the Cape. This year they came in fourth place in Senior Babe Ruth in the country, traveling down to Mobile, Alabama for a tournament.

“They have really helped out with my progression this year and really pushed me to the next level,” Williams said.

Williams reiterated his excitement for his senior season.

“It is big out here on Nantucket to be graduating as a Whaler,” he said. “It is exciting to be able to do that and do it with my class of course.”
