The 10th annual Nantucket Half Marathon took place Sunday morning with 199 runners participating. A new women’s course record was set by New York City native Alysia Dusseau, who ran the 13.1 mile course in 1:24:27 (pace of 6:27). Her time beat the old record by about two minutes. Jim Meehan, who ran the event, said the weather played a major role in the half marathon being very successful.

“Overall conditions were ideal with some overcast and temperatures in the 60’s.” Meehan said. “Runners faced the usual from a race on Nantucket with a bit of wind, a stretch of sand, and a welcoming and friendly field.”

While Dusseau placed first in the women division, she was second overall behind Neil Segel, 31, of Houston, Texas, who finished with a time of 1:20:03 (pace of 6:07).

Women made up two-thirds of the race’s field for the first time, Meehan said. Another women who made her mark on Sunday was Danielle O’Dell. O’Dell was awarded the Glidden Award in honor of long time runner and Nantucket sportsman David Glidden, who passed away five years ago.

“Danielle O’Dell won the Glidden Award for her nearly ten years of running the Nantucket Half Marathon and a score of other races,” Meehan said. “The award will be given out annually to recognize people who contribute to fellow runners. Danielle O’Dell also won the 40-49 year female category with an overall time of 1:38.”
