An hours-long standoff in which a Nantucket Police SWAT team and State Police Troopers surrounded a home on Polpis Road with guns drawn ended just after 6 p.m. Monday with no shots fired. One man was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
The man was armed with two knives during the standoff, police said, and a K9 unit from the Barnstable Police Department that was ferried to the island was used to subdue him. Nantucket Police identified the man as Jeffrey A. Frable, 64, and he is being charged with violating a restraining order.
Frable was alone in the house during the standoff, Nantucket Police Lt. Angus MacVicar said.
The incident began around 2 p.m. when police arrived at the home to serve an arrest warrant for violating the restraining order. By 4 p.m., the home was surrounded as officers and troopers trained their guns on the residence at 315 Polpis Road and used a loudspeaker to tell Frable to come out of the home. Police moved reporters away from the driveway before the arrest was made.
