1. Opening Day…
It’s that time of year again! Restaurants and shops are slowly but surely changing over those “closed for the season” signs and celebrating the start of the 2016 season. This week will see a host of re-openings and grand openings: Faherty will open its Candle Street doors for the first time Friday, May 13; the Hospital Thrift Shop will re-open Monday, May 16; The Pearl and The Boarding House will both welcome diners starting Wednesday, May 18; and Follain will re-open Thursday, May 19.
2. AAN: “Poetic Imagery / Make an Impression” Reception

The Artists Association of Nantucket brings you two levels of thought-invoking and diverse art and an opening reception you won’t want to miss. Make your way through art paired with poetic texts on the first floor and printmaking upstairs (and don’t forget to grab a glass of wine and a little cheese while you admire the talents of your friends and neighbors!)
3. Local Love Wine Tasting

4. Hope for Addie

6 – 10 P.M. @ The Rose and Crown
The Nantucket community will be banding together this Saturday evening to support local mother and daughter Andrea and Addie Nielsen, who have recently returned to the island after an extended stay in the NICU at Denver’s Children’s Hospital. “Hope for Addie” will raise funds to assist Andrea as she stays at home to care for Addie. A suggested $20 donation at the door will gain you entry and access to great music, raffles and a live auction.
5. TWN Staged Reading/Musical: Marry Me a Little

7 – 8:30 P.M. @ The Nantucket Atheneum Great Hall
Theatre Workshop will be bringing you a one-act musical revue, featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim, about two urban singles sharing a Saturday night yearning for love all from the solitary confines of their own apartments. Admission is free and this is a sure way to spend your own Saturday night in great company.
6. Breakfast on the Beach

8 – 10 A.M. @ Galley Beach

7. Maria Mitchell Astronomy Open Night
Monday, May 16
7:30 – 9 P.M. @ Loines Observatory
Nantucket is one of the best spots on Earth to look at the stars, so join the professional astronomers of the Maria Mitchell Association for an impressive tour of the sky. These viewings are free for MMA members and only $10 for non-members.
8. NWF: Welcome Reception
Wednesday, May 18
5 – 7:30 P.M. @ The White Elephant
Join N Magazine, one of the proud Welcome Reception sponsors, and toast to the kick-off of the 20th annual Nantucket Wine Festival. There’ll be a red carpet photo line, hors d’oeuvres galore, and plenty of Veuve Clicquot to go around. Buy your tickets here.
