Girls Soccer Season Comes To An End

The Whaler girls soccer team’s season came to an end yesterday. The MIAA released the Div. 4 state tournament bracket last night, with the Whalers coming just short of making the top 32. They finished 33rd and .042 points behind the #32 team.

Despite a difficult start that saw the Whalers begin their season with a 10 game losing streak, half of which were by two goals or fewer, the Whalers continued to play hard and improve their game under their senior leadership and head coach Brian King.

On Oct. 7, the Whalers tied Barnstable 1-1 on the road after losing to them at home earlier in the season 4-1.

The Whalers followed that performance up with a 0-0 tie against Falmouth on Oct. 14 after losing 3-0 to the Clippers at home earlier in the season. Then just 11 days later, the Whalers earned their first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Dennis-Yarmouth.

The Whalers followed up their first win with a rematch against Sandwich, which ended in a 1-1 tie after losing to the Blue Knights 4-0 in September. The Whalers proved to be a much different team as the season progressed and showed that through much more competitive games in their rematches with schools that beat them earlier in the year.

The Whalers closed their season out with a 3-2 win over Martha’s Vineyard, their biggest rivals.
