EMILY’S POST: Fall 2015

Beach days are behind us. Time to put away the sun dresses and start prepping our closets for the crisp autumn days ahead. Fashion changes as quickly as the seasons, and keeping up with the trends can be daunting. So don’t chase all of them. Instead, choose the trends that speak to you and incorporate elements that are easy and most comfortable. This way, you feel on the pulse but don’t have to break the bank with every season.

The most important trend to remember for Fall 2015 is ‘70s revival. Take hints from style icons Farrah Fawcett, Ali MacGraw and Jackie O. Think hippie-chic, bohemian silhouettes and retro glam. Dig out your suede, fringe, feathers, faux fur, midi, mini and maxi skirts.

COLORS
Since we’re trending to the ‘70s this fall it’s no surprise that brown is the color of choice. You’ll see it mixed with other classics: navy, gray, burnt orange, and army green. Your pop of color this season is maroon. Take a break from black, but if you must, then wear it head to toe.

DENIM & FLARE
Flared jeans are back in a big way. This is the season to mix it up and invest in a pair. Flares will add a little variety to your wardrobe, and they elongate your legs. I know what you are thinking: “But I’ve completely converted to skinny jeans.” Don’t worry; I say you can still wear them. I certainly will be!

GARDEN STATE
Floral prints have been on-trend for a few seasons, but for Fall 2015, they are going to be moody and dark. Think black and gray backgrounds with muted maroon and dusty-rose vintage floral prints. An easy way to sport this trend is to channel your inner Jackie O with a floral print scarf, thin turtleneck and round-framed sunglasses.

When it comes to jewelry this season, bigger is definitely better, because statement jewelry is back after a mini hiatus. Add a little oomph, but also know when to stop. For example, a stack of chunky bracelets means go minimal with a necklace and earrings. Want to be daring? Try a statement hairpiece.

CHUNKY SWEATER & THIN TURTLENECKS
This season, sweater fashion is one of extremes. Chunky Sweaters: There is nothing cozier than thick weave knit. Balance the extra bulk of the sweater with a sleek bottom. No flares with this look, so break out those skinny jeans. Thin Turtlenecks: Tuck them into your flares, wear under a silk V-neck top, or layer under a dress. Staying warm is chic this season!
