Boys Soccer Season Comes To An End In Heartbreaking Fashion

The Whaler boys soccer team lost their round two match to the Wahconah Warriors Wednesday evening 4-3. Yeison Castro had two goals for Nantucket while Treyce Brannigan had the other.

The Whalers rallied back after being down 2-0 to take a 3-2 lead, but Wahconah was able to tie it several minutes after Castro’s go-ahead goal to make it 3-3. The Warriors took a 4-3 lead with 1:18 to go in the match, which sealed Nantucket’s fate.

The Whalers had a very strong season overall despite a sour ending. They faced adversity early on with a 4-0 loss to Barnstable in their season opener, and after winning a pair of games, lost to the Nauset Warriors 5-0 to bring their record to 2-2 through the first four games.

Any questions about whether the boys soccer team would be competitors this season and have the potential to make a run in the state tournament we’re answered with their 10-2-1 run to end the season, including a win in six of their last seven regular season games.

They closed out the regular season with a win over the Vineyard 1-0 and carried that momentum into the postseason with a 2-1 win, at home, over Shawsheen Valley.

The 2021-2022 Boys Soccer Team’s Seniors are:

#5 Max Beebe (captain);

#6 Anthony Sosa;

#7 Alejandro Chacon;

#10 David Lemus-Castro;

#11 Pajorn Drysdale;

#13 Silas Moore;

#16 Justin Ho-Shue;

#17 Dylan Ottani;

#28 Henry Pena;

#30 Yeison Castro;

#41 Ramon Welch;

#45 Kevin Lima.

The Whalers finished the year with a 13-5-1 record. Head coach Rich Brannigan II continues to do an excellent job with a program that is routinely a threat in the tournament every season.
