The boys and girls swim & dive teams made quick work of Bishop Connolly during Wednesday’s meet. The boys won 102-35 while the girls won 102-36.
There were some new state and sectional cut times from this meet. On the girls side, senior Sam Wisentaner earned a sectional cut time in the 50 yard freestyle of 26:94. Senior captain Sarah Hanlon earned a sectional cut time in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:17.19).
On the boys side, Jake Johnson was able to earn a sectional cut in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.72 and is just .63 away from earning a state cut time. He also earned a sectional cut time in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.35.
“This kid is swimming incredibly fast right now,” Pignato said of Johnson, who is a freshman. “That kid probably gets the most hyped on our team. I think everybody on the team just continues to improve.”
Saturday will be the Cape & Islands League Championship at Sandwich High School.
“On the girls side we are undefeated and 6-0 which is great,” Pignato said. “They haven’t had a lot of close meets where they have really been tested but in a meet like championships they are going to be seeded against a lot of swimmers who have very similar times. So it will be a challenge for them. We are positioned really well compared to the league. We are just looking to continue improving our times.”
“On the boys side, we are 5-1 with our only loss to Nauset on a DQ. We beat Sandwich earlier in the season but they didn’t have their two best swimmers so that is going to be a huge factor and challenge for us. All 8 or 9 of our boy swimmers have great personalities and just fit in really well with each other. They have really bought into the program.”
