Tyler Konopka Hired As New Nantucket Athletic Trainer

The Nantucket Athletic Department announced Monday afternoon that Tyler Konopka has been hired to become the next athletic trainer for Nantucket Public Schools.

Konopka, 27, graduated from Castleton University in 2016 with a degree in Athletic Training and Health Science. He comes ashore to Nantucket from Orville H. Platt High School, where he served as the school’s athletic trainer for five years. He has also been serving as a combat medic in the United States Army Reserve for several years, where he developed a background in emergency medicine.

“I’m just excited to be here and get started,” Konopka said. “It seems like I am walking into a great situation with a great team in Travis (Lombardi) and Matt (Hunt).

Hunt was hired by the school to become the assistant athletic director in July after four years as their athletic trainer. After a candidate who was originally hired to fill the athletic trainer position dropped out last minute, Hunt occupied his new position along with the athletic trainer role throughout the fall season.

Hunt says he plans on keeping his athletic training license and certification moving forward as a precaution and to support Konopka.
